Some important things for this year.....

* Our P.E. day is Wednesday. Pupils are to come into school on those days in their PE kits (plain black joggers or shorts, and a plain white T-shirt please).

* All earrings need taking out for the PE lesson or tape to be supplied and put on by children.

* Can you please ensure that reading diaries and books are in school everyday. Children will receive a raffle ticket each week if they read three times or more.

* The Year 3/4 library is also every two weeks. Year 4 have access to the library on Wednesday. Reminders will be sent via Classdojo.

* Spellings will be handed out every Friday and then tested on the following Friday.

* Homework will be given out every Friday and will be due back by the following Thursday at the latest.

* Please do make sure that all uniform, coats, PE kits, lunch boxes, bottles and book bags are named so that they can be returned.

Finally, say a big hello to Busy Bee! Busy Bee sits on Mrs Howells' desk to ensure that all children are working well in lessons. Every Thursday, during English star write lessons, the children share their goals with Busy Bee.

Times Tables

In June, all children in Year 4 will complete the Multiplication Tables Check. This will consist of 25 questions and the children will have 6 seconds to answer each. We are doing lots of practice within the school to support the children. If you would like to practice at home, please find the links below:

Our work

Reading

Our class reader at the moment is 'The Danger Gang'. The children are really enjoying reading this and have been laughing along a lot!

English

Each half term we focus on a different chapter book which we read in Guided Reading and in our writing sessions. This half term we are reading 'Greek Myths'. In Autumn 2, we will start a new book, 'The Fastest Boy in the World'.

We will focus on a different writing outcome each week, related to the chapters we have read in the book. Examples include; a retell, diary entry, persuasive text, a setting description and a letter. Within these lessons, we focus on different skill elements that will then be evident within our work during each lesson.

On a Thursday, we then complete a STAR write which will highlight our learning and demonstrate the key skills we have learnt that week, in a style of writing that relates to our book.

Please see some examples of our writing below:

Maths

In Maths, we follow a spiralised curriculum which allows children to revisit and build on the foundations of each topic.

We encourage the use of a concrete (Build it), pictorial (Draw it) and abstract (Solve it) approach, which allows children to use manipulatives to deepen their understanding. This allows them to move on to pictorial representations before finishing with the skills to solve written calculations.

So far, we have covered units such as place value, addition and subtraction and multiplication and division

Please see some examples of our work below:

Science

In Science, we are learning about states of matter. This includes looking at real life examples of solids, liquids and gases. The children have had the opportunity to take part in some Science experiments investigating the melting and cooling process. We will end our topic with the Water Cycle and an exciting workshop with Severn Trent Water.

Please see some examples of our work below:

Curriculum

Our curriculum lessons consist of both Geography and History objectives. Our current unit, 'What have the Greeks left behind?' mainly covers History objectives from the National Curriculum.

Within lessons, we immerse the children in a rich geography and history curriculum that allows them to explore a range of skills with the help of our mascots, George the Geographer and Hilda the Historian.

Termly units of work enable the children to grasp a deeper understanding of each topic and ensure they have excellent knowledge on how to answer their big question.
