Welcome to our class page.
Here you will find all you need to know about Year 1, see some of the amazing work the children have produced as well as our awards.
Some important things for the year:
- PE day is Tuesday - Children to come in their PE kit (black joggers/shorts, a white T-shirt, black hoodie and trainers)
 - Reading books will be changed in accordance with children's RWI groups
 - Reading books and diaries should be in school each day.
 - Children to be heard read at home three times per week
 - Children will receive RWI sound. There are for the children to practice the sound they have been learning in school. This can remain at home for future use.

If you have any questions please see me on the door at the start and end of each day or message me via Class Dojo.
Dave the Sloth
Dave is our class sloth. He loves going home with children each week to join in with family life. Please add pictures and text to his book so your child can share this with the rest of the class
Autumn 1 Topics

RWI
Children are grouped into ability for RWI sessions.
These sessions involve learning sounds, blending, reading and writing skills.
Your child should come home with a sound sheet each time they learn a new sound.
These can be ticked off once they can read the words containing the new sound.
They do not have to be returned to school they can remain at home for future use.
There will an afterschool phonics club in Spring term, look out for more details in the new year.
Phonics is a really big part of children's learning. Once they can read, they can access all parts of the curriculum and beyond. So please listen to your child and practise their sounds with them.
English
As part of our English lessons we introduce the children to a different high quality text each week which we base our writing on using the I'm a Clever Writer Approach.
Each week we do 'star write' children get to use the skills taught that week to write about the book they have been using.

As well as this we have story time each day to promote the love of reading for pleasure.
Maths
We follow a spiral curriculum that allow children to revisit and build on the foundations of each topic.
We encourage the use of a concrete (Build it), pictorial (Draw it) and abstract (Solve it) approach which allows children to use manipulatives to deepen their understanding allowing them to move on to pictorial representations before finishing with the skills to solve written calculations.

Curriculum
We immerse the children in a rich geography and history curriculum that allows the children to explore a range of skills with the help of our mascots George the geographer and Hilda the historian.
Termly units of work enable the children to grasp a deeper understanding of each topic and ensure they have excellent knowledge on how to answer their big question.

Other

Year 1 enjoyed learning about Matt Hudson-Smith for Black History Month.
We learnt he was from Wolverhampton and won  a silver and bronze medal in the Paris Olympic Games.
We enjoyed running some races and making our own medals.
We had a lady in from Scarf to talk to us about feelings. We met Harold the giraffe and helped him sort through his emotions and how he could cope with them.
We really enjoyed the Bookbus, there were some fabulous books
Thank you to everyone who purchased books, we really appreciate your support.
We made pots today to end our art topic. It was a little tricky making the shape we wanted but we tried out best
